Introduction to Our New Fridge-Freezer
In our latest expedition truck build, one of the key upgrades we made was installing a new fridge-freezer system. In our previous van setup, we had a small, 3.1 cubic feet fridge, but this time, we decided to go with the Norcold N8DC, an 8 cubic feet model. This new addition more than doubles our fridge space, giving us more storage for off-grid adventures.
12V DC Power System
The Norcold N8DC runs entirely on 12-volt DC power, making it ideal for our self-sufficient rig powered by solar energy. The installation was straightforward, with a simple positive and negative hookup to the fuse panel. One of the standout features is its energy-efficient design, including a night mode that conserves power when the fridge isn’t in use, reducing the drain on our batteries overnight.
Customizable Temperature Controls
This fridge-freezer offers temperature settings for both compartments. You can set the fridge and freezer at different levels to suit your needs. The digital control allows you to adjust cooling from levels 1 to 5, giving you complete control over how cold or frozen your items are, depending on your preferences.
Flexible Storage Solutions
The fridge's storage options are highly functional. The freezer, located on top, features adjustable shelves to accommodate different types of food. Below, the fridge has two baskets perfect for storing items like meats and cheeses, while a larger space is reserved for taller items like milk, juice, or coffee. The half-level shelf in the back adds more space for smaller items like sour cream or cottage cheese.
Built-In Locking Mechanism
When you’re on the move, securing your fridge doors is essential. The built-in locking system ensures the doors stay shut during travel. To open, simply press the lock button, making it both travel-friendly and convenient for daily use.
Sleek, Modern Design
One of the things we love most is how beautifully this fridge blends with the interior of our truck. The matte black finish matches our design perfectly, adding a sleek, modern look to our space. Despite being larger than our previous fridge, it fits well in our compact home on wheels, giving us just enough room to stock up for longer off-grid adventures.
